As we start into the sixth month of our travel, we’re looking back and reflecting on all the places we have visited, the sights we have seen, the people we have met and the fun we have had. To date our trip has been nothing short of incredible. Our travels started at a whirlwind tourist pace. Over time we have begun to slow our pace and appreciate that “less can be more.” Through the first five months we have kept ourselves very busy with very little time for good, old-fashioned rest and relaxation…that is until now!
There is something wonderful about a sunny beach vacation where there is little pressure to do more than rest, relax, eat, drink, soak up the sun and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Even if the weather does not fully cooperate, it is nice to have a few days set aside to do nothing—no day trips and no sightseeing—just moving at our own pace and relaxing.
I think we may have found the perfect place to “take a vacation from traveling” at the JW Marriott in Khao Lak, Thailand. The property is fantastic with private patios and one of the best pools that I have ever seen. The pool is a giant canal laid out in a sprawling grid that provides 3.1 km worth of swimming lanes! Taking a lap around the pool takes at least 30 minutes. We have also enjoyed the gorgeous sunsets over the Andaman Sea. It’s not how we typically travel, but the slower pace is welcome at this point. Although I do feel a little guilty at times for not exploring the local area more, we are thoroughly enjoying a short vacation from traveling!
